America - A Tribute to Heroes (2001) DVD
More info Buy the DVD in Music Video Books Store America - A Tribute to Heroes : I didn't care for Iglesias mostly because it was more a love song, but maybe it was appropriate to others. The highlights for me were Neil Young doing "Imagine." That alone is worth the admission. Also the appearence of Dennis Franz and Jimmy Smits of "NYPD Blue" standing together like partners again, and talking, appropriately enough, about the cops who risked their lives, and died saving others. Limp Bizkit with Johnny Rzeznik (of Goo Goo Dolls) doing Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here" was equally awesome. Fred Durst looked to me like he was talking to us as he sang many of the lyrics. The Boss, Billy Joel, Eddie Vedder (with Neil Young on the organ), Sheryl Crow, Bon Jovi (a spectacular rendition of "Livin' on a Prayer") round out the cream of the crop musically. Superb speeches by Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Jim Carrey, Will Smith and Ali, and many more strike a chord both uplifting, and I think heart-breaking at times. It closes out with awesome speeches by Robert DeNiro (wow!) and Clint Eastwoood (wow! wow!) along with a performance of "God Bless America" by Celine Dion and a moving performance of "America the Beautiful" by Willie Nelson, with backup by everyone present. WOW! is the least I can think of to describe it as a whole. GOD BLESS the USA!
Britney Spears DVD
More info Buy the
DVD in Music Video Books Store Britney Spears - Britney: The Videos (2001) DVD :When an artist releases a video entitled, "The Videos", one would expect it to be a collection of videos. Instead, "Britney: The Videos" is a collection of three videos - "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know", "I'm A Slave 4 U", and "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman." There are no other videos, unless you count "Overprotected" - outtakes of the movie set to the song. The DVD also includes a Pepsi commercial, an HBO commercial, and a performance from the 2001 VMAs. If you wanted a collection of Britney videos, ala "Dave Matthews Band: The Videos 1994-2001", you're out of luck (as I was). To get copies of the other videos you'll have to buy Britney's other two DVDs, but you still won't get the videos for "From the Bottom of My Broken Heart" and "Born To Make You Happy", which I was really looking forward to having. If you simply want to buy anything with Britney's name on it, I say knock yourself out. However, if you're looking for the actual DVD that the name implies, I'd recommend waiting. In the meantime, her HBO special is coming out on DVD in January and would be a much better buy if you don't feel like buying a bunch of DVDs (Customer Review)
The Sound of Music DVD
More info Buy the DVD The Sound of Music DVD : TReviled by some, beloved by many, consistently referred to as the most popular movie musical ever made, THE SOUND OF MUSIC more than fulfills the promise of its beautiful visuals and expert song numbers on home video via DVD. This edition tops the 1995 laserdisc by allowing the sparkling, exemplary design of its 70mm. Todd-AO frame to be exhibited with increased sharpness and resolution. The 4.1 Dolby Digital soundtrack is powerful and clean, but since this film was originally mixed for six-track magnetic stereo, it's curious why the effort wasn't made by Fox to split the surrounds! Nonethless, the film sounds terrific. The extra features make this package a bargain at the price. Full length commentary by director Bob Wise, with the musical numbers presented sans vocals, is a great touch. And the two documentaries are beautifully presented; full of facts and bits of arcane information that any fan will truly enjoy. A great movie, and a great DVD rendition. More like this, PLEASE! Duke Ellington's Sacred Concerts (1998) DVD : it's unfair not only to the musicianship of all those associated with this performance but also to ellington himself. indeed, isn't the dream of any music-maker to create mucis that lives forever> and, especially when you border classical forms, this is a must!
i do think this dvd is a fine performance that fuses jazz and classical for the betterment of the MUSIC! (Review)
