Step by step

This talented teen is destined for success:

Hilary Duff started her career dancing with the Ballet Met Columbus.
Hilary Duff snagged the role of Ellie in the 1999 TV movie, The Soul Collector.
Hilary Duff's breakthrough role was the part of Lizzie McGuire on the Disney Channel's hit show, Lizzie McGuire.
On top of dancing and acting, Hilary Duff is also a singer. She has songs on The Lizzie McGuire Soundtrack.

At six years old, Hilary Duff was following in her big sister's footsteps and traveling as a dancer. But she knew that acting was her true passion, and before long the precocious preteen had charted a course for Hollywood. Little Hil wowed fans with her performances in Soul Collector and Casper Meets Wendy, but it wasn't until a television show called Lizzie McGuire that Hilary became a household name.

Hilary Ann Duff was born on September 28th, 1987 in Houston, Texas to Bob Duff and Susan Duff. When Hilary was six, she had been traveling in the Cechetti Ballet with her sister Haylie Duff, but decided she wanted to fulfill her dream of acting. Her first part was in the mini-series, True Women (1997) (TV), but her first starring role was as Ellie in The Soul Collector (1999/I) (TV), for which she won a Best Performance in a TV Movie or Pilot (Supporting Young Actress) Young Artist Award. Hilary also starred in Casper Meets Wendy (1998) (V) in 1998, in which she played the young witch Wendy. Success came again as she took the role of the starring title character Lizzie McGuire in the #1 Disney Channel Hit Series, "Lizzie McGuire" (2001). In 2002, she made the Disney Channel movie Cadet Kelly (TV) and, the following year, returned to the big screen for the first time in 5 years with The Lizzie McGuire Movie. She may have played a teenaged girl mistaken for a pop star in The Lizzie McGuire Movie, but after releasing a Christmas album in 2002, and crooning two songs on the movie’s soundtrack, Hilary Duff looks like she means business. The only trouble is, she doesn’t sound like it. Although dubbing her first album "Metamorphosis," the disc is anything but. Her singing is as coy and kittenish as her on-screen persona and she mugs her way through most of the 13 songs with charm and aplomb, but little natural singing talent. But to her credit, the actress has managed to cover a multitude of vocal sins by hiring a team of crack producers, who double her voice whenever possible, giving many of the tracks the rather anthemic feel of a cheerleading squad. The best songs on the disc are the three masterminded by the Matrix, the same production team that oversaw Avril Lavigne's hit disc and they give the lissome actress’s singing some attitude and attitude, like on the infectious and spectacularly bratty "So Yesterday," and the cleverly conceived "Math," complete with heavy metal guitar riffs. But Duff is not inhabiting that saucy jailbait territory staked by Britney Spears. At the ripe old age sixteen, she’s much more Barbies than bustiers.

In 2003, she begins filming 20th Century Fox’s "Cheaper By The Dozen," with Steve Martin in April, 2003 and in July, 2003, Hilary goes into production with a starring role in the Warner Bros. picture "Cinderella Story."
In 2004, she appeared in movies like A Cinderella Story, Agent Cody Banks 2, and Raise Your Voice, and also released her self-titled second album, which exchanged the neutral fluffiness of Metamorphosis for an anthemic rock-pop style consistent with efforts from Ashlee Simpson and Avril Lavigne.
Hilary Duff stares off the cover of Most Wanted with the look of a doe-eyed, feathered-haired criminal. Or maybe she's just exhausted, which would explain why she revisits so much already-released material. Three of the teen queen's biggest, brightest hits ("Come Clean," "Rock This World," and "Why Not") get the remix treatment.
The collection included three new songs - including the single "Wake up", written by Benji and Joel Madden from Good Charlotte - as well as remixed versions of past Hilary hits like "So Yesterday" and "Come Clean." There was also the Most Wanted tour, which stretched into September, ending just in time for her 18th birthday..
